Frequently asked questions

Answers to what our customers ask most. Still unsure? Just call.

Can you replace an Audi key if I have absolutely no working key left?+

Yes. Replacing an Audi key from a zero-key situation — meaning no working key exists — is something our technicians handle regularly. It does require more steps than duplicating an existing key: we need to read certain data from the vehicle's onboard systems and in some cases from the immobilizer module directly, then cut a new key to the door and ignition profile and program it from scratch. We will ask for your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID before beginning, and we will confirm the full scope and price with you before touching the car. It takes longer than a simple duplication, but it is entirely possible on-site without a tow.

How long does Audi key programming typically take on-site?+

For most Audi transponder key replacements, the on-site process takes roughly 30 to 60 minutes from the time our technician arrives, depending on the model year and the key type involved. Proximity smart key programming on newer Audi models can take somewhat longer because the vehicle's systems require a more involved coding procedure. If a broken key needs to be extracted before cutting the new one, that adds time as well. We give you a realistic time estimate when you call, and we do not rush steps that require care to protect your vehicle's electronics.

Will you need to tow my Audi to program the new key?+

In the vast majority of cases, no. Our mobile units are equipped with the diagnostic and programming tools needed to work with Audi's immobilizer and key systems at your location. You do not need to tow the vehicle to a dealership or anywhere else. The only situations where shop access might become relevant are rare edge cases involving a damaged immobilizer module or a vehicle with prior unauthorized tampering — and even then we will advise you clearly before any towing would be considered.

What information do I need to have ready when I call?+

When you call (973) 954-9099, it helps to have your Audi's model, year, and VIN available if possible, along with your current location in or around Madison. We will also ask for your vehicle registration and a photo ID when our technician arrives — this ownership verification step is non-negotiable and protects both you and us. If you are not sure of your exact trim level or key type, that is fine — our technicians can identify what system your vehicle uses on arrival.

My Audi fob stopped working but the key still turns in the ignition — do I need a full replacement?+

Not necessarily. When the physical key blade still works but the fob functions — remote lock, unlock, trunk release — have stopped responding, the issue is often a dead or failing fob battery, a lost pairing between the fob and the vehicle, or a cracked internal contact caused by a drop or water exposure. Our technician can assess the fob on-site, replace the battery if that is the cause, and re-synchronize the fob to your vehicle if the pairing was lost. A full key replacement is only recommended when the transponder chip or the fob's internal electronics are actually damaged beyond repair. We will tell you exactly what we find before recommending any parts or service.

Do you offer Audi key replacement late at night or on weekends?+

Yes, without exception. Madison Locksmith Corp operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including holidays and weekends. Key emergencies do not keep business hours, and neither do we. Whether you realize your Audi key is missing at midnight in a Madison parking lot or you are locked out at 6 a.m. before an early commute, call (973) 954-9099 and a trained technician will be dispatched to your location. Overnight and weekend calls are factored transparently into the quote we provide before any work begins.
